He looks a lot better than yesterday when he had those rashes but still my concern is him not eating. The high levels of ammonia previously had probably compromised his immune system causing a Hexamita outbreak. What do you guys think I should do to make him start eating again? He loves hand feeding where you had to dip your hand in the water and have the food next to his mouth but I've been trying to do that and he would just put his mouth next to the food and just turn around and swim away, just not interested. He would show signs that he is interested in food (ie: I usually shake the container of his food right by the surface and he would come up to the surface during feeding times). I have given him all his favorite food including banana and he still rejected it.
Also: for the metronidazole treatment, baytherman, should I hold off on the treatment until he start to get his appetite back or should I go ahead? I am just concerned that he is more than likely not to have an apetite when I medicate him and his tank. I appreciate all the compliments on my big friend, Borat, and all your input

It also seems like the salt added and the Seachem Stability is helping a lot. thank you.

Be patient and allow the treatments to work. Pushing anything too fast can lead to accidental death. It's not a pretty lesson to learn.

I would medicate the tank daily after a water change 30-50%. If he is not eating it is because he feels full because of intestine loss. Continue to treat the water and try to feed him sparingly. Keep with the salt as well as it not only helps with his outer protection but non-iodized table salt or Epsom salt help flush his system as well. As Glaive has mentioned, be patient and allow the treatment to take affect. Your Midas won't starve to death. He should be able to go for weeks if need be without food, but if you are medicating him properly, it shouldn't take that long. Midas's are a pretty tough fish, and I have found to be true, the bounce back rather quickly of properly taken care of. Keep us posted.

Hey guys, GOOD NEWS, my Midas friend is eating again. He seemed really hungry too. I tried mixing few drops of Gel Trek Ultra Cure (contains 0.30% metronidazole) to his food and he did not eat it. I also tried putting some drops in the water while he is feeding and he does not seem to like it. Have any of you guys tried this product? Also just out of curiosity, do you guys have any special recipe of fish food that your fish loves? I dont' think my Midas is that picky, I just want him to try new and healthy food. http://www.petfish.net/kb/entry/431/ has some info on it.
I am still keeping up with the water changes, ammonia levels and all in all, good water quality. I have not treated the water yet with metronidazole. I was just waiting for him to get his appetite back and increase his immune system little bit before I dose the water. I have not notice anymore of the white stringy feces yet. I don't know if he does not poop like that anymore or if he just have not poop yet in general because he hasn't eaten anything lately. Thanks a lot guys. My Midas seemed to have recovered very well due to your advise. |

Good news indeed.
Try chopping some garlic up and mixing it with a couple raw shrimp in the shell even with heads. Let it sit in the dish for 15 minutes then feed the shrimp, leave the garlic behind. |

Great news.
I have feed my Midas Cichlids peas, spinach, beefheart, worms, flies and crickets as well as home raised guppies, mollies, and dare I say convict fry, Hikari Gold, and NLS pellets for his main staple and of course shrimp. Again great news about your fish. Keep an eye on him and keep us updated as well. |

All sounds good. I have fed him oranges, peeled grapes, banana and apples. Those are his favorite. I tried raising guppies before and tried feeding him but he just end up killing them and not eating them. Strange. I will definitely keep an eye on him and keep you guys posted. Thanks once again :-)
