tested my tap water...

pH: 7.5
Nitrate: 1ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: 0.10ppm

my tank levels for today (day 3):

pH: 8.1
Nitrate: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: 0.05

The aragonite sand has been in my tank for three days now, two days yesterday. I guess it is fairly normal to have levels like mine, I'm just surprised that they neutralized (particularly the pH) so quickly. I have to go pick up some Ammonia tomorrow morning along with a gH/kH test...
I did check out the fishless cycle post by RustyNut in "Setting Up Your New Cichlid Aquarium." Very good information... but I still have some questions. So knowing that the ammonia levels will continue to deplete each day and you must keep them at .05, how much ammonia do i add to my tank each day? I don't have anything to go by because I didn't need to add any from the start so I'm not sure what to do. Also, if the pH continues to decrease should I be adding baking soda daily as well? Should I not let it go below 8.2? And what gH, kH, and dH levels are normal?

Getting excited for the peacocks...don't know how I'm going to be able to wait 4-6 weeks though...

oh and i am sooooo happy the Saints won the superbowl!!! well deserved... i like the colts too but it's time they step aside and let someone else have a moment of glory.

So how are your fish doing? are they changing color at all? who is the alpha male this week (i know it changes from time to time)? Must be so interesting to see their personalities develop and their interaction with one another. ahhh i can't wait!
