Default Is there a chart or something that can break down the

    African Cichlids:

Is there a chart for dummy's that can some what break down what goes with what? Doesn't have to be fish by fish but like a good rule of thumb.

    Example:
Tropheus can go with so and so
Neolamprologus can go with so and so
    Neolamprologus ..........

Not trying to come across as a "you know what" but in general:

Malawi Cichlids can go with Malawi Cichlids

Tanganyika Cichlids can go with Tanganyika Cichlids

    and

Victoria Cichlids can go with Victoria Cichlids

    hehe

There is one on the cichlidrecipe.com........however.......I DO NOT like nor recomend that website in general as it actually is a recipe for disaster....I have not looked at that chart very closely so I don't know how reliable it is...

As Seedy's signature used to say - and I paraphrase, so pardon - 10% fact, 90% experience.

In my case, early on, I had some whacked out combos that should never ever ever have worked but did.

If you're talking about Malawis, as a VERY VERY general rule, avoid conspecifics - that is, in a large nushell, avoid putting species together that look alike. Don't put a demasoni in a tank with an elongatus. They won't like eachother. That said, someone may very well respond to what I'm writing and announce, "Matt, you ignorant slut! I have a tank with 10 demasoni and 10 elongatus". But, if the fish you want to put in the tank with your blue and black striped fish is ALSO blue and black, you may want to reconsider.

Also, again as a really really general rule, mbuna don't really like non-mbuna. Actually, the non-mbuna really don't like the mbuna cause they're the ones that usually end up upsidedown on the substrate...

My rule is, well, my rules get chucked out pretty quick when I get to the LFS and see something that I want, so let's ignore my rule.

Some of those recipe sites are flat out cruel to the fish involved. I would say pick some species you like - by "some" I mean ten or fifteen. Research the bejesus out of those and you'll find out that species #10 dislikes species #9 but would go just fine with 3,4,8 and 11. So then you've either ruled out 9 or 10.

besides, finding your own recipe for your own tank is, IMHO, what makes having africans so much darned fun!

HTH and is not incohent babble...

Well I think I am going to go with the fish that Male and females both are very colorful.

Yellow Labs being my #1 pick.

Of course I will have 2 Red Tail Sharks.

But any help with names of what fish would be right up my ally and would go along....

125gal "6ft" I also have over 100lbs of Texas Limestone with caves and it is stacked high.

    any idea of fish?
