    Question Sand in 55 tank

I'm getting a 55 gallon tank and would like to put sand in instead of the rocks. How much sand do i need for a 55 gallon tank and what type is best?
    thanks

Get a large grain sand. Definantly nothing powdery. It should feel very coarse. I prefer black sand and luckily it is readily available for sandblasting purposes. You will not want a very thick layer, maybe only 1/2". If you have much more than that it will pile up in a thick layer and if never stirred it can harbor dangerous bacteria that can harm your fish once its disturbed.
