Looks to me like they are "Red Jewel Cichlids" (Hemichromis bimaculatus).

Not bimaculatus, guttatus. The real bimaculatus has probably never been seen in the hobby, they have been going under the wrong name for over 80 years. The correct ID was determined about 10 years ago, but no one seems to listen when the ichthyologists tell them this.

What was the determination of the cichlid 10 years ago? I read that, "there are several very similar species in this genus". Please give me the correct info.

The Cichlid Fishes of Western Africa by Anton Lamboj was published in 2004, but the information was (as often happens) released before the book. In fact, it was pretty will suspected long before that. If you look at the CRC catalogue you will see that the only picture of bimaculatus is the preserved type specimen. This is the most dependable listing of Cichlids on the internet. You can also look at Fishbase or the California Academy of Sciences Fish Catalogue. The fact is, the genus is about to get an entirely new makeover in the next couple of years, as many fish have been imported under the wrong names, and some may actually be undescribed species.
