    Default Biggest Brood

What is the largest brood you have seen and from what fish was it from? I just had a Met Zebra Long Pelvic give me 50+ fry this week. I was totally amazed and have never seen a female with that many fry before.

My old Met. sp. "Red Top Gallireya" Gallireya Reef female would put out about 50 in a spawn.

    Brian,

Back when I use to strip females for fry, an acei released over thirty. I remember my amazement of how it reminded me of clowns spilling from a small car in the circus. When done, I looked her in the eye, patted her on the head, placed her back in the tank and made sure she got a little extra food at dinner time.

I find the mouth brooding technique, utilized by many rift lake cichlids, fascinating.

    Regards,
    -Gary

I was so supprise when i saw that many. The last few broods from this female has been high 20s low 30s. So when i saw them keep pouring out i was amazed. With big broods like this is it better to strip then? Will they swallow some the longer they hold?

My mpanga spit out 35 this past Sunday- this was her first time.
It's our first experience as well- it seemed like an aweful lot.

I have a pair of Astatotilapia calliptera around 3 inches. The female has brooded over 100 eggs the last time they spawned.

My caudopunctatus recently I swear she had over 100, it was insane I couldn't count them all. Course I lost em all to predators and I will move them asap. Stunning to see who many and I know my fry! Jules
