I don't know that I will modify the design at this time, unless it is to drill another hole in the elbow to allow the pocket to not build up. Other than that, by adjusting the air flow and not removing the good eggs from the tumbler this tumbler design should work out fine. I will know for sure when I get back home to check on the eggs.

It works well? I'd like maximum survival. Any advice or adjustments?

I have been running this tumbler setup for awhile now. I have my best results when the eggs are just starting to form. When they are complete eggs its hit or miss. I have had complete batches form and growout just fine and have also had entire batches fungus up. Over all I love them and actually have 4 of them going as we speak.

Can u take pix and vid for me so I can see it? And how soon after she puts them in her mouth are we talking? And what do they look like when they get fungus? I'm so new to the breeding aspect. I've had these guys for 3 years and have 1 baby (had 3 hatch a few weeks ago but I think they got eaten ) when I took my female out of the tank to separate her she spit out 11 eggs (she had only had them for 2 days tops- and she still has ~2 in her mouth).... I wasn't aware of the tumbling but I've watched her through the last 2 broods and now I understand why... You can see the constant movement in her mouth. So I'm very confused and new to the whole idea of tumbling the eggs- I want to prepare for future broods. (I've only ever had live bearers and they are the simplest things to breed...)
So any help, advice, pictures, anything is EXTREMELY welcome!

The article on Spyder's site has the same pics as the beginning of this thread. I just double checked.

Here's the link to the article on my site: http://cynotilapia.info/DIY-Budget-Egg-Tumbler.html

As far as maximum survival, there might be better tumbler's out there that are easier to work with. I've had a mix of good and bad results with this tumbler and my method of tumbling in the past. For the most part I prefer to not even tumble eggs - but I designed this tumbler to simply be very cheap.

I prefer to just let the females hold their babies.... then strip.

How do u ensure the other fish in the tank don't eat the babies? I tried tanking her out to separate her and she spit the eggs...

Remove the female after 2 weeks of holding in the main tank. Then strip babies into a fry tank.

And they will be ok without a tumbler at that point?
How long should they be separated before I put them into the main tank?

Once they are between 2 and 3 weeks old, they should have absorbed a fair amount of their egg sac. At that point, yes - they are fine without a tumbler. I grow fry out to at least 1", in not 1.5", before putting them in with adults. Once they reach 1", they are generally big enough to not be eaten unless you have predatory species in your tank.
