    Default Moved tank to new home - questions

    New to this forum and I like the advice I've seen given on many posts. I'm sure my questions are nothing new, but I'm hoping for some feedback.

    Tank specs:
    55 gallon
    Fluval canister
    Penguin 350

    I recently moved homes and was forced to move my tank. Luckily it was less than 2 miles and I was able to move about 1/2 the water. It's been stable since the move for the past 3 weeks, but last night one of my fish died, Pseudotropheus acei.

    My fish are about 1 year old and it got me thinking that maybe I do not have the right mix. Through dumb luck my Pseudotropheus crabro bred and I was able to save 2 of them, which are about 2" now.

    I'm interested in some Iodotropheus sprenger and Iodotropheus sprengera, but based on what I've read I wont' be able to pull it off.

    My remaining fish are:

    Pseudotropheus acei
    Count = 0 : (

    Metriaclima lombardoi
    Count = 2

    Labidochromis caeruleus
    Count = 1

    Pseudotropheus crabro
    Count = 4 (1 male, 3 female?)

    Neolamprologus brichardi
    Count = 2

    Maylandia estherae
    Count = 2

    Do I have any "uh-oh's" in my tank? I would like to add some more colorful cichlids, but do not know which I can mix.

    Thank you

    The crabo will get too big for your 55g tank - they really need a 72" length.

    The brichardi is a Tang and won't be comfortable in a Malawi tank.

    I would suggest getting rid of those to start, and then picking 1 more species to keep. You can add a few to your existing groups as well.

    Thank you for the advice.

    I may try to work a deal locally since I have a breeding pair.

    Maybe then I can work the rustys and peacocks in.

    You'll also need to be very cautious with the peacocks, most can't stand the stress of a tank full of mbuna. There are a few specific types you should stick too, but I'm not a keeper of them and don't know the names.

    Look forward to hearing how your transition goes!

    IMO, the uh-oh's are the Lombardoi(Kenyi) and the Crabro. Those two can be very aggressive types, and as Larry said, the Crabro get pretty big. I'd also re-home the Brichardi as he mentioned, as they are a Tanganyikan fish and won't mix in well. I'd up the numbers of the Labs and Estherae to 5-6, and add a third group of mbuna. Just don't distribute any fry from those two, as they are known to crossbreed. Rusties(iodotropheus sprengerae) are nice if you can find someone with good quality ones. I've seen some that had terrible color for a rusty. Yellow tail Acei are also a good mix, but do no more than 5 in a 55g, they can get up to 6".

    When mixing mbuna with peacocks only the most mild species should be selected and the tank should be mainly haps/peacocks and 1-2 mbuna species... lots of mbunas with a couple peacocks (or even 50/50) is a bad idea most of the time

    Thank you all for the feed back, however now that I have more aggressively investigated the fish I have, I see I have made some errors. The list below is accrate and I apologize for wasting your time with my original list.

    Based on what I can tell I still need to rehome the Crabos and will do so soon.

    I'm looking at the compatibility chart to see if these changes will allow me to put some Peacocks and Rustys in. My goal is to add a bit more color to the tank. Outside of my Crabo's, which killed 2 of my Acei, my fish seem to all get along. My hope is to remove them and introduce some Peacocks based on the chart.

    Below is my updated list. Again, my apologies.

    Pindani
    Psuedotropheus socolofi
    Count = 2

    Acei
    Pseudotropheus acei
    Count = 0

    Yellow Morph
    Labidochromis caeruleus
    Count = 1

    Bumblebee
    Pseudotropheus crabro
    Count = 4 (1 male, 3 female?)

    Albino
    Psuedotropheus socolofi
    Count = 2

    Red Zebra
    Maylandia/Metriaclima
    Count = 2
