    Default Shop Hop In MI

Went on a Detroit area shop hop yesterday with 3 other guys from the Grand Valley Aquarium Club. Had a great time and hit some awesome shops especially going to Oyer's and Durkin's (wholesale breeders) probably saw thousands of tanks. I bought 2 Enantiapus Melongenys for $24 @ Moby Dicks.I also got 4 Lamprolougus Brevis "tiger" for 12 bucks! and 1 more E. Melongenys for $5.

    shops we stopped @

Oyers is in Brighton - Next to 96 & 23. Or at least it was when I used to live there, not sure if it moved. It's not a fish store, need to call in advance but wow, they're loaded. Best prices around

Andrew good grief I was just in Brighton at the lake!!!!!! What do you mean it's NOT a fish store? Do I need an appointment? Exactly where is it? Is it on Grand River? I need a name exact so I can get the address if you dont have it. I will stop next time I am up there. Thanks for the heads up on this. Can you at least tell me what kinds of fish they have plz? they have tons of fish! i would estimate at least 600 tanks.Anything you can imagine. However this is not a place the public can get into. We were allowed because of the shop hop.

Bnoel i would ask @ a local shop. i just looked in the back of TFH magazine and there is a club in Louisville. www.LMAS.org

at least as far as i know it's not for the public. not trying to sound snooty. i feel very lucky to have gone, and the people at all the stores were very friendly.

yea my two regular lfs are either moby dick or highland tropical. Both are excellent stores I prefer highland because they specialize in freshwater fish.

Julia, Oyers and Durkin are breeders and wholesalers, they sell to the shops. The shop hop mostly went to different stores, but to make it special, some of the larger fish breeders open their doors for a large group of hobbyists to come see and even buy. They also visit members' fishrooms; I did not go up for this trip, but they went to Juergen Kasprick's house. He's a technical genius at setting up filtration and water change systems.

If it were just running around to different shops, that wouldn't be all that special! I believe they had a picnic get together at the end of the day, too. If I weren't on the other side of the state, I would have considered joining in.

That sounds awesome! I used to live in Chicagoland and I miss the quality LFS.

I live in fly over country now (not complaining - I don't miss too many things about living near the big city but lack of LFS is one of them).
