Pleco Question

I have heard from many fishkeepers that you can not keep more than one pleco in a tank and if you dou one of them will eventually die. Is this true? Because i have 2 plecos in my 135gal tank and they were bought at the same size. One year later one is 8in and the other is 4in. Why is that?

hello there chris, i had that with my old tank i got two plecos at the same time one grew the other didnt they both lived ok neither got sick, but the larger one usually got most the food, i dont think it causes a problem. this time i only got one hes growing huge, do you know how large they grow? bit worried i only have a 10 gallon tank.

From what i hear they can grow to huge lengths. I even saw a 20in pleco at my lfs. Thanks for the reply. What do you keep in ur 10gal?

i have a friend who has a 2 foot pleco, in a 200 gal tank, the thing is ENORMOUS

Plecs are just territorial to each other sometimes in a tank smaller than 100-120 gallons as I've seen. Sometimes it gets to the point where they fight like golden algae eaters, then its time to change em out.
