Probably not the right guy to answer this, but... the Red Devils I have now and had in the past were wimpy compared to even my JD or Texas cichlids. But the Devil raised havoc on smaller fish I have had with them. IMO Devils are nice but unless you have them in a tank with other similar aggressive you will end up putting them by themselves. Midas Cichlids which are of the same complex IMO are much more aggressive and don't mind showing it. They litterally fear nothing that I have ever had them housed with except an Umbie(now dead) and a Red Terror(by himself in a big tank. IME RDs are more community than Midas Cichlids are, but I really like the Midas Cichlids, especially the barred ones. They have a very distinct personality that's all all there own. Didn't really answer your question I guess, sorry about that.
My second overall favorite cichlid.#1 Till I got my first flowerhorn. Most red devils, are now part midas.Hard to get a true fish of either one.I have three now, very interesting, aggresive if need be,but are very personable. The only fish I have been able to keep with them is exodons, and a couple of jellybean parrots[convict family].It all really depends on the individual fish though.
have several midas, if you have space, best common fish. I keep mine with cons, GTs, JDs, completely depends on how big your tank is
so what about malawi with them mine is a barred one not sure to get it out or not
It might be alright. I would think your Midas will eventually kill it though.
just what i was thinking
I had a midas and it killed all my fish. every time i would clean the tank it would attack my fingers and draw blood. very active and fun fish though. I sold him.
red devil my sister had one of these fish full grown. she then bought a baby midas, the red devil let the midas grow to almost his size then killded it in a matter of minutes. so in my expirence these are mean fish that like to be alone!
