Default Differences between female and male acei?

Are there any tell tale differences? They generally stay the same color don't they?

    There really isn't anything obvious

No, although often males will have more blue in the dorsal fin than females (assuming we're speaking about acei 'msuli', or blue yellow-finned). They need to grow to a certain size before this becomes obvious though, and by then you can usually guess which ones are the males based on size.
