Outrageous hardness

Wow! Just realized my tapwater is abnormally high...after hanging around here for a week or so now, decided to get a full-spectrum water testing kit (before i only checked Ph and Ammonia levels)...anyhow...my GH is off the charts high...anybody recommend any water additives to combat this? Also my Ph was a little low...6.4-6.6...might that just be due to the fact that I was over-due on a water change in the tank I tested?

p.s. Good news that Ammonia, Nitites were zeros...

I know what you mean but, I pH tested mine & it's 8.5+ (my colour chart didn't go any higher!) Damn near navy blue it was that blue!!! Least I figured why my FM tank kept sitting plus 8. Gotta love you local water supply company. (I can say that, I work for one.)

i would worry bout it! your fish wil be fne for a whle but if you dont do somthin now and it goes higher. youll be sayin good bye to somthin.

That is true DR.J. I know what you can do to lower it very quickly but it's bad to do. If you dump your fish bag water in your tank when you buy new fish it will lower your ph very quickly! But not a good idea.

I wonder if there is a rock or stone that makes your ph go down, I know alot make it go up?!

there are water softner pillows available at your local LFS that allow you to put them in and remove them when its satisfactory, mine are made by aquarium pharm. inc. and are product number 49a. I have been extremely satisfied as my tap water is extremely high in hardness too. hope this helps
