    Default water temp.

    what is the proper water temp. for africans? and is there a digital heater and theromstate out there in the market?

    depends on the african cichlids your getting... ideal would be around 80. but for mbuna... you can sway from 76-84
    anywhere around there should be fine.

    I go around 78 with mine. I bump it to 82 for parasite control.

    it does depend. if i have mbuna, i would keep them around 78, same for tanganyikans. i keep my Victorian cichlids around 75.

    It's not a heater but I bought a nice little digital thermometer at Petsmart. The probe is down in the water and the little digital readout is outside the tank. It works on a battery and you press a button to turn it on and off.

    right now my apartment is on the 80's (I don't use a heater)and averages around 76-78 when I am able to run the ac.

    Coralife makes a fantastic little $5 digital thermometer like that! I think it has an alarm too. I haven't seen any in stores around here, only online.
