Question NEED info on a Chipokea? cichlid

Don't think I got the name right! I'm having a hard time find info (imangine that) I do know I got a male from a pet store what's no longer open.
The male looks ALOT like M. Auratus EXCEPT he's very Dark ,darkbluish black. His belly has a dull yellow and the ends of his fins are outlined in yellow.
He CONSTANTLY removes gravel...guess he's looking for a female to come visit.
The girl who worked at the now closed staore said he was a chip - o kay.....well,that's how it sounds & they were not very much desired cichlids. WELL.... I like mine!
Thanks for any info OR just a point in the right direction
    Dave

There are exceptions to every rule. Every cichlid is different.

You don't say how big he is or how big your tank is. If he still has some yellow on him then he is not fully mature. In time you may see his true nature. My male grew to about 7 inches long.

I just came from a local pet store. They had one like my male BUT where he is dark, the other is yellow ! their the same size. They remind me EXACTLY of how the opposite colors are in M. Auratus !

I've been taking pics. Do you have to resize pics to post on here? When the male was up against the tank wall.. ..... I held up a ruler,he's 6.7 " Guess I can't guestimate very well. Thanks for all your replies. I know newbies are a REAL PAIN.

Sometimes you have to resize pics, how big are the pics you are trying to post? Need both pixel dimensions and file size.

Wow. A 6.7" male that is still showing some yellow! All the yellow was long gone in mine before he reached 5"
