    how much does crushed coral rais your ph and will it be safe for sa cichlids.

    I would not use it....unless your tap ph is super low. since you are trying to achieve a ph of 7-7.8. you could possible do a mix say about 30% crushed coral and 70% sand/gravel. but i am not expert.

    What kind of SA cichlids are we talking about? Most SA fish come from soft acidic water. You don't want to raise the PH. Chances are you want to lower it. You want your PH to be below 7.0 not above it. What your PH coming out of the tap?

    Unless your water out of the tap has a PH of over 8.0. I wouldn't bother messing with it.

    Oscars should be fine in most any tap water.


    For most commonly available species, it is more important to maintain a consistent pH than target a specific number.

    Good advice there Josh......... Consistency is the key, and Oscars thrive in just about anything!
