Problem green algae returns a few days after adding algae killer and cleaning everything. What else can I do? This is a 10g tank with a pair of Pink Convicts. They bred in nother 10g tank but I moved them after a month in case they decided to eat their fry. Probably should not have moved them. This tank is not in bright light although it has the flourescent bulbs that are very bright . Any suggestions appreciated
For now, I would suggest keeping the aquarium lights off and doing frequent partial water changes. Do you know if the tank has completed its nitrogen cycle? A ten gal is a bit small for a pair of convicts, if the tank hasn't cycled, the nitrates (algae feed off this) are probably too high.
Hi Leigh
A couple of things in conjunction:
1. Begin more frequent (perhaps even daily) water changes of around 15-20%, making sure to siphon out detritus that the algae can use as a nutrient.
2. Opt for less than "very bright" lighting and reduce the time the light is on.
Oops. Finz replied while I was typing.
Follow his advice. :D
