Ok... so now I'm thinking of getting a much larger tank. When my Green Terror grows up, I want to put him together with my red devil... anyone seeing huge problems here?

Depends how big the tank is. I would say unless your tank is less than 6 feet your green terror is going to suffer a painful death.

There is the occasional red devil that will tolerate other fish, but not in small tank. Your best bet is to grow them up together and watch them very closely. Things could go well for a while until your red devil turns on the other.

It has happened way to many times before.

well actually I was planning on an immense tank. She's lived in a 55 gallon for a long time now... happily might I add. She has never once tolerated another fish, so in hind sight it was a stupid question.

Yeah, but you still haven't given any real idea of the size tank your talking about. To some people a 125g (6' long, 1.5' wide, 21" high) is immense. To me, a 500-600g qualifies for immense.

But as long as the tank is 250g or larger, and contains more cichlids and other fish, you should have little problems. A fish that is very aggressive in a 55g, will mellow out dramatically when their tank size is greatly increased.

over 200 is immense to me.
125 is huge
75 is large
50+ is big
29 is median
10 is small
less is tiny

The GT is a baby anyway... he has a long time before he matches the devils size... so I have years to buy a tank that has a chance of housing both of them. I've been training her to live peacefully with other fish in the meantime...
I throw feeders in and scare her away when she goes after them (she's pellet fed) she's let the same feeders live with her for 5 days now... success is mine. (or she's more patient then I anticipated)

hi im new to the forum. Um, i keep a full grown green terror (8, 81/2 inch) with a six inch red devil in a 75 gallon tank, and i have no problems, at all, plenty of tank. So maybe it just depends on particular fish personality. Also, you could put the green terror in with the red devil as long as it was a big enough tank, my red devil was introduced at 2 1/2, 3 inches in my tank with a full grown terror and dempsey and was fine, just needs somewhere to hide.

Welcome Thetim9. It does depend a lot on personalityand other factors. But aggression levels and hierarchies change as fish mature. With your Red Devil being smaller than your Green Terror and having grown up with him, he is submissive. But when your Red Devils gets larger than the Green Terror, there could be some serious problems. So keep an eye out, and good luck.

I have 2 young adult male Midas (8" Stripes) in a divided 125g with several other fish. Each male has half the tank (divider in the center). And there are also

2 Zonatus - 3-4"
1 White Midas - 3-4"
1 Tuba - 2"
1 Red Parrot - 4"
5 Convicts - 2-3.5"
1 Severum - 4"
1 Lima Shovelnose - 6-7"
1 Syno cat - 5"

Niether midas is real aggressive to the smaller fish, and everything is 100% fine right now. But I'm not betting any money it will last.

Banky, they make plexiglass tanks that large. I have a 500g water tub that I have added large windows in and made into an aquarium. It was really cheap to do and I got the tub for free. I've been think about making a tank this size of of plexiglass. I could do it for $500. I just don't have $500 right now :) Oh, and I have mine in the basement.

i think that your green terror is gonna die. green terrors, and ive seen this in petstores are wimps. they dont defend themselves much but if u want to take the chance go ahead or get another fish, i mean you r gonna get a big tank right?

a red devil and 2 oscars in a 30G? .... I've seen my RD corner a full grown albino tiger oscar in under 30 seconds.... that would not be a happy arangement.
Oh... the GT didn't make it out of infancy... disease got him, and despite my best efforts, he died. So I won't be going ahead with that anymore...
