View Full Version : Breeding Jewel cichlids
How hard are jewel cichlids to breed. The 29 gallon in my office is in need of some more color and activity. At the same time, I need a fish that will breed prolifically so I can have feeders for my Managuense. I was going to breed convicts, but they are not too terribly colorful or attractive. Would jewels be a suitable substitute?

chet, i don't know if they are easy to breed or not, but i do know that the juveniles like to kill each other off--maybe you should keep looking for a good feeder fish to breed.
Thanks for the info gypsy, I'll keep looking for ideas.

jewels mate soooo easily in almost any water conditions, they were my first fish i ever breed. don't worry about water conditions much, if, at all (you know what i mean just keep it around normal). anyway, just get a male and like 3 or 4 females and no doubt you will have 100-150 fry within 2 months.
