Are you sure that that is a male? It looks like a female to me. It's anal fin is more rounded (female), and the gill by the mouth has blobs of blue, rather thatn being bare (female). It looks to me like a female.

Its a female first of all the dead give away is the blue coloring on all of the gill plate. And the anal fin is not as pointy as a males. that is 100% female JD. I would really have to ask the people that think that is a male how long you have been keeping cichlids? Thats like comparing apples from oranges.
notice the absence of blue on the gill plate and the more pointed anal fin. This is a male.

Just because I'm new to these forums, don't assume that I haven't been keeping fish for a long time.:D

i think its a male. because of all the cloring. female are just darker in color. they are uasually black. and spots dont mean its a female. it should look like it is smear on. i bet it is 100 percent a male. it looks just like mine. how big is it.

My male has practically no blue on its gill plate. Also he is much more colorful. He show no black bars at all. My female used to only get dark when the male was present. When they were seperated in diff tanks she lightened up considerably. How big is the fish?
