I bought these (3) at a local chain..they said they are trimacs..I said PUUF! I don't think so..I have had trimacs and they don't look like these fish. They look real dark at times....they actually colored even more than this when bagged to come home. How unusual is that? LOL
Any help will be appreciated. they eat like trimacs though!! GULP GULP!!

The far one is a Jack Dempsey. But I am not sure what the close one is.

better pics would help, and IMO that is no jack by what i can see.. and the front fish looks like a jewel.

Probably not, but from the angle of the forehead in this pic I can't help but think one of the Thorichthys, but I can't seem to find any with a solid line through the middle like that. The dorsal edging looks consistent...nice fish whatever is is though :D

Kinda looks like amphilophus longimanus. would be a little easier if the head weren't turning away.

The ones in the back are both Jack Dempseys.
The front is an Amphilophus, possibly longimanus, although it resembles a Vieja of some sort. Try to get a few more photos. A shot of the mouth would sort out Amphilophus versus Veija.

I've seen these too...probably at the same chain store. I couldn't figure out what they were but I'm guessing some type of hybrid. I can't see the chain store that I saw them at getting anything cool like longimanus. I almost bought one just to grow it up some more and try to get a positive ID. having seen them in person I can tell you they're definitely not a thorichthys. they almost had an Archocentrus/Cryptoheros look to them as well but if that were the case then these (at least the ones I saw) would have been close to full grown which is also wierd for a chain store.

Please don't jump all over me for this, but I think he looks an awful lot like a mix between a nic and a lyonsi.

Yes, it could be a hybrid. To me it resembles a Cichlasoma alfari.
