Will the Green Terror ever stand up for himself? Who knows. Maybe. Probably. But there's no telling right now.

The convict is dominant because, the other fish are submissive. All of your little fish are aggressive species. And each fish will have a different personality. Your convict is just more aggressive than the green terror at these stages in their life. It could change.

the jack dempsey used to stand up for himself and fight the convict back but now he just runs, the jack and the gt get along fine.

i think that the GT will start to take up for himself. i have a Green severum that would chase my GT around until the GT started to gain some size on him. now the GT chases him.

Iv read alot of post saying that there green terror completely wiped out there tank fish such as Oscars, Convicts, Jacks and so on, i think the green terror is just a bit dosile and such a small size,i put my GT with my firemouth and the firemouth did nothng but chase his ass around and the GT did nothing,so i got rid of the firemouth cuz i like the GT much better very kool fish, anyways, i got a Jack D and put him in with my GT and so far its a great match up they do not fight at all, the most that happens is the GT will nip at the jack for my attention and they tend to nip at each other come feeding time but nothing major they really tend to leave eachother alone, they even swim around together somtimes both coming to the tank to greet me, they are both about 2 " juvies so im sure there gonna change but what im hopeing to do is raise them up together and maybe they will bond or something.

cichlids(especially gt and jds) tend to become more agressive w/ age. Before long your gt will be dominant if your lucky, but most likely it will kill everything else.

Ya your probley right, Im really considering scraping my piecefull community tank and prepare for some new homes for my cichlids, besides cichlids are way more entertaining, probley will put the Gt in a 55 after he gets some size on him and put the JD in a 30.

oh ya , do you think a JD would do ok with a larg Bala shark? iv seen it done but only in larg tanks like a 75G , im pretty sure thats what it was, there was a large Oscar a JD and a very large Bala Shark.

you could get away with a jd and a bala, but only in a 75 gallon or so, a 30 gallon is too small eevn for a jd.

give him some time, hell outgrow the convict and the tables will turn,as for the jack I'm not sure, big enough tank will definitely lower aggression but then again, green terrors alot of the time do not live up to there names unlike there counter part the RED TERROR.If a real aggressive fish is what your looking for go with the RT.good luck with whatever you do.

IMO rivulatus are way overated when it comes to aggression. All cichlids have the potential to be aggressive but GT's don't really live up to their name as terrors. I have a 7 inch GT that lives with severums and sajicas and silver dollars and never have I seen any fighting going on except for the sajica's quarrelling every now and then. On the other hand I've kept Jack dempseys to and geez they could put up some fight. I had a young 3 & 4inch breeding pair in a tank with an 8inch buttikoferi and the male would take on the larger butti front on and the female would sneakily come in from the side. I had to move the butti out of the tank as he couldn't keep up with them.....

Every fish is different. I've had jds that were scared of their own shadow and then one juvie in particular that currently won't stand anyone out of hiding except for him - he's relentless, still trying out for king, flexing his fins at fish 3 times his size... Their attitudes change as they grow. There really is no telling what will happen.

The trick is to have more tanks so you can juggle fish between them to match compatibility and balance off the aggression. More tanks make the hobby easier! :)

if you have a gold fish in the tank your ammonia levels are probbablly too high causing you jd and gt to be wieners they cant get any o2 ...but then again I am an idiot

a few people touched on it, but cichlids won't show their true personality/aggression until they reach sexual maturity. it is at this time when many cichlids such as JD's, GT's, Red devils, etc. become psychotic killers over night. Typically, cichlids tend to reach maturity at about half full grown size...convicts however are an exception to this. I think convicts are born sexually mature LOL...j/k. Seriously though, they are mature by 1-1.5". that's why your convict is running the tank. wait till the JD or GT hit maturity and the tables will turn. I used to have a jag that was pushed around by a firemouth...till the jag hit 7", then the jag completely took over the tank. Just give them time and their aggression will come out.

One thing to remember, I classify JD's and GT's in a medium aggression level. IME, these guys aren't killers, especially if given enough tank space. They will become territorial though, no matter how docile they are.

I say wait , like the others say, the tables will turn. It seems pretty interesting for the time being though. A con ruling a jack, gt tank. I'd like to see it, cons are so cool.-salty

Give the terror some time ,, i had a 55 gallon tank at one point wit a 9 inch oscar with a 2 inch jak and i put in a 2.75 GT in and the jak use to beet him to hell but then they started to get along a bit and then i baught a 65 gallon and the terror a weeek later started murdering the jak! but now there best Buds and my oscar is now like 11 inches and the terror is like 4.75 and the jak is 5 inches and the terror still will own the jak!
