this is just me being curious.

sometimes my jaguar cichlid is a tan'ish color. then 10-15 mins later... hes almost pitch black. then turns back tan'ish. is this a show of his mood? :?:

yes. cichlids change color depending on mood. some are a lot more drastic than others. my black belt will turn from silver with a blue/green tint to whiteish with stripes when he is feeling aggressive. the change only takes about 2 seconds.

My buttikoferi used to have drastic color changes that would take place in a matter of seconds. Was kinda funny cause I would be watching him, then I would turn around for a second and when I looked back he would have a different coloring.

The color change is normal. It usually means the fish is scared though. When my jag was little it was picked on by some larger fish and always was hiding out by the filters and his color was very large. Now he/she is large and pretty much fearless, with this size and respect has come bright coloration. Beautiful fish and so much fun, they love to look outside the tank and always says hello when I get home. Good luck with your jag.

i noticed after he quit being timid he seems to be a lighter color.. and is actually quite beautiful fish. took me awhile to warm up to him.. but i think hes one of my favorites now :D
