Was told above pic is that of a Protomelas sp Steveni Taiwan Reef. Would anyone know whether this the same as Haplochromis Fenastratus? Has the latter been renamed? What about Protomelas Fenastratus? Is it a Protomelas sp Steveni Taiwan Reef?
Sure would like to know what I have in my tank. Two of them! :bawl:

I would say steveni 2-3" 15 cm and he is in changing phase.....I might be wrong...
It has been that sort of day.......................
It is an Aluonocara regardless.....until he changes you won't know...NICE fish so far!

It is a variant of Protomelas Fenestratus, it was first discovered at Taiwan Reef, hence the name "steveni taiwan".
Yes they did change the name from Haplochromis to Protomelas.
Do a search and check out the adult coloration it's really a beauty.

Yours is a Aulonocara J.Norris, Wasp's is a Protomelas in the juvenille stage.
Nice pic. by the way, also I tried to raise the vote on your Front. It's more deserving than what them people gave ya. :x

I might be crazy (so I have heard). But Taxonomically speaking they could be all Alonocara or something......the debate lives for 35-40 years...
Why not? If not...... They look like Aulonocara.....same shape and taxonomical form.
call it what we will......Stilll a nice fish.....
It confuses the hell out of me!

they are all haplochromines, but they are not all aulonocara...they are definitely related, but they are not the same.
