I'm new as you can all see. I've been looking at cichlids for awhile now and finally went for it. I got 2 jewel cichlids and 2 kenyi cichlids. I wanted 2 other cichlids too (don't know the name, but they were black/yellow horizontal stripes). The person at the pet store said it would be best to put these 4 in the tank, come back a week later and get the other 2. First of all, would 6 be too many fish? They are all around 1.5"-2" a piece. What should I have in my tank? I've got lots of artificial plants and 3 caves. Thanks for your help!

the fish that you bought and the fish that you wanted to buy are all extremely aggressive cichlids and are not suited to small tanks. is it possible for you to return the jewels and the kennyi? or can you set up a fifty-five gallon tank? the black/yellow fish are probably melanochromis auratus...mean, mean, mean!
