My 125 is has some algae on the front glass. I have a small Commom Pleco (2-3") that is being rather lazy. I was feeding him Hikari bottom feeder wafers but I stopped that thinking he would get hungry and back to work. <G> Any suggestions on a good glass cleaner. I was going to get a Chinese Algae Eater but I hear they will start sucking the slime coat off my other fish when they get larger.

Try a couple of rubber/bulldog plecos. I find them to be the best and fastest algae eater out there. Brown, green, white algae it doesn't matter they eat it all.
They stay small and you can piock them up at most stores.

Thanks Rudy! I trust that they are quick swimmers. My tank is active. <G>

in my 55gl I also had a real bad algae problem, bought a couple of gold algae eaters and I swear by them,in a matter of a week you could see a huge difference in the tank,as far as them attacking and sucking the slime coat of other fish, not mentioned in any of the articles I've read on them.I have read though that once mature they get territorial and kind of a pissy attitude towards tankmates(exspecially fellow bottom dwellers)and as rudy pointed out about the rubber/bulldog pleco's these algae eaters are not fussy, they eat just about every type of algae out there.Hope this helps, take care.

if you want fast algae eaters get your 3 or more flying foxes. they are great! i have three in my 77 gallon tank and there isn't a speck of algae in the tank!
i have ottos in the 90 gallon but they are very slow and not good in an aggressive tank.
contrary to what most people believe... plecos are not very good algae eaters and most only eat algae when they are young... as they age they stop cleaning and wait around for a wafer LOL

Hey Skydiver I heard turtles work well at controlling algae! Or even better, how about this, you buy a timer for your lights so they're not on 24/7!
methuse: turtles, with FISH? lol...... and btw, no need to sound so mean- this post is 5 months old now;)
