I got him from Armke's a couple years ago.He wasn't a F-0 or anything to my knowlege. There's supposed to be a major breeder up in Utah.Guy named Steve Davis own's it,named Crystal Springs.Has geothermal hot springs to do water changes from.Breeds a lot of Demasoni,Auratus, albino elect.blues, yellow labs,L.trewavasa.Big operation.People would probably be really surprised to find out a lot of the fish they buy comes from Utah!

Ok, cool....first time I saw it come up I figured you just really liked Cameros or something!
I've always figured my screen name needed no explanaiton....it's my initials spelled out C.D.
Yes there's 2 females, He's one of the many fish I'm "baby sitting" for another week untill my brother can come pick them up. But I will be able to get some fry from him when they spawn.
It came from a person my brother knew in high school, and he was moving to go to college and selling all of his stuff. And my bro couldn't get down here before he moved, so he's having me hold onto them.
He hardly ever swims towards me so I had to sit and wait forever to get that shot.

I guess the lithobates need females in the tank to get them to color all the way enough to turn completly blue and loose the spots.
I got a couple of smaller females when I bought this one.By the time I got home the next day one had killed the other. The surviver ended up a male.Somebody at the LFS got a good deal on him.Didn't have to drive to Austin to pick it up!
Yea CD,I like chevy's but only in the truck form.
You can hardly see the spots on the one I have. He looked better before the move, he's still getting used to being here.

Great pictures guys. :)
On those Otopharynx lithobates the blue coloration is more intense depending on what area of the lake the original fish came from. I just got a group of these guys last week. My absolute favorite Hap type.
z rock is that a black background on your tank painted or a tape on one?
Nice fish Z-Rock, a buddy has some Elongatus Chailosi that are simliar to those Bee's. Lots of nice Elongatus out there it seems.
I moved my group of F1 Lithobates ZRocks to my 75 gallon, and they started spawning right off the bat. Those guys are more prolific then my Yellow labs! and they started at 2" in size for the females. :jaw:
So far my males blaze isn't anywhere near as impressive as ES's or yours. Do their blazes tend to come in as the mature or should it be there from a younger age?

Yea Konings #3 has pics of 4 of these that are simular. There is a Chewere,Chitimba,a Chailosi from Chitande Is.,and the "Bee" from Chirwa. The shop I got these from called them Chailosi "bee" so I don't know what the deal is on that.Mine seem to favor the Chirwa "Bee".
Konings say's they defend spawning holes only 50cm apart.Thats only about 20"!.Pretty small territory for a mbuna.I have them in my 125g with my Haps.So far they seem well mannered. They do like to dig!

I got my "Z-Rock" from Armke's at about three inches. He had such good color he stood out from the rest in the tank.I couldn't leave the store without him. They can change colors in a heartbeat depending on how they feel.

Are you saying that alot of the fish on their list that says it's wild caught really isn't? I was thinking about getting some fish from there as I live in canada and have a hard time finding anyhing I like here. Are they good people to deal with?

Oh no Jennifer, Armke's is a reputable dealer.I was just saying I didn't buy a wild caught lithobates.I don't know how the shipping works between Canada and the US. It may be more trouble than it's worth. I know of a person selling F-1 electric yellows up there.
Here's a couple links that might put you in touch with some cichlid people.I know Canadians are crazy about there cichlids!

Keeping the P."bee' and the cynotilapia is more or less an experiment for me right at the moment.Mine are in a 125g with Malawi haps and others. If you do get elongatus,I would suggest one of the four I mentioned earlier from the Chewere area because the one's from other areas,I'm sure can be quite territorial.Elongatus come from all over the lake. Some will probably be put in the tropheops genus before long.
A fish buddy has the Chailosi and Chewere, here is a pic of a couple of his males.

Hey,those are nice Woot.Thanx for sharing the pics. After studying those and Konings book I can see that mine probably is the chailosi. The Chailosi and the chewer have an all black dorsal and on the "bee" the bars extend into the dorsal.
I guess it's possible some might call all four of them "bee's".
