hi i have a new 40 gal for my 3 1/2 inch red devil and he's yellow with red gills i really wanna put a black light in there i dont know it appeals to me and i would like tto know what would be a good backround color and sand color ? also his temp is at a 85 degrees constantly is thtat bad? thx

85 degrees is too high, drop it down to 80

ya know the rd is not going to glow with a black light on him right?

but if you are set on the blacklight i guess black sand would be okay with a black background........ i'm not sure if a blacklight is okay for him healthwise though

if you want something that will bring out color, buy a blue light (for marine tanks) or a fluorescent one. I have a fluor. one in my 90g and the color in my green terror and toger oscar just shine!

if i switch to sand should i just start by tanking out all the water or just take the gravel out and add sand? he wont eat the sand right?

hi i got the blue light as u said with white sand it looks nice but why is it cloudy? will it go away?

depends on how grainy the sand is, mine settled out within a matter of 5 minutes.

yea, like oscar_pack said it needs to settle...i've heard of it taking up to a week to settle...when you filled the tank did you put a plate or something like that on the sand so it wouldnt disturb it alot?
