Has anyone ever heard of this fish?
It has the same body type as Pangasius, but different coloration (black stripe in the middle, yellowish underbelly). It is being sold at a lfs as a tankmate for Malawi cichlids.
Thanks in advance for any help given.

it reminds me of a schilbe catfish(unidentified species) that i got from armkes...it came from lake tanganyika and looks just like the schilbe intermedius shown in the above link, only about twice the size that they indicate. i have it in my hap tank.

Thanks for the links, Gypsy! :D
What I have seems to be a Pareutropius buffei. It looks exactly like the one in the picture from the second link.
On a different note: I have read some of your posts to others regarding different types of catfishes to keep with Africans. I have three Synodontis eupterus in my Malawi tank currently. Do you think there will be a problem? They seem to mind their own business and keep the Africans at bay. They have tons of places to hide and seem to hang out all together. I guess there is strength in numbers. I do remember you posting something about them being a bit "quarrelsome," but they don't really hurt one another. This seems to be true with mine.
If you have any ideas on the subject of these Synos, please let me know. I am open to all types of input.
P.S. The 20 gal. tank is history.

i also have s. eupterus in my lake cichlid tanks--they fit in perfectly! one interesting thing that i have learned about them in recent months is that they grow at a tremendous rate!...i bought some juvies at different times in the past year and they have rapidly tripled and quadrupled in size. this is in contrast to the tanganyikan synos which like most other tangs, grow very slowly.
