We are looking to stock a 110 gallon aquarium with African cichlids and would like to know what fish we can keep with the following, as we plan to stock with these three varieties initially:

Alto. compressiceps
Aulonocara walteri
Frontosa

Also, how many should be kept in the tank with each fish measuring approximately 5 to 6 inches? We have a mated pair of the Aulonocara walteri that will go into the tank, if that affects the number of Aulonocara walteri that can be kept in the tank. Also, can A. Calvus and A. Compressiceps be kept together?

hi--frontosa and aulonocara are mouthbrooders, and like most mouthbrooders, they are polygamous and should be kept in groups like 1m to 4f, not in pairs. calvus and compressiceps are very similar and likely to hybridize...why not just choose one of them? cyrtocara moori would fit nicely into your proposed group...again, a polygamous mouthbrooder.

i assume that you are aware that male frontosa can reach sixteen inches.

Don't they grow fairly slowly?

Any other kinds that might work?

Look I would not keep cichlids of two different lakes in the same tank for many many reasons! But if u r sure that this is the way u want to keep them... u could also keep in there Cop.borleyi, Sciaenochromis fryeri, Otopharynx lithobates, Cyrtocara moorii, Prot.taeniolatus! I would prefer the Aulonocara u have 1+1, Cyrt.moorii 1+1, Sciaenochromis fryeri 1+4, Otoph.lithobates 1+4, Prot.taeniolatus 1+4 and maybe Lab.caeruleus 1+4 for the nice color contrast they all would make together! Or if u must have the frontosas in it... Cyph.frontosa 1+3, Altol.calvus 1+3, and thats it! You must know that frontosas need alot of space even they are slow mooving fish! I have a group of 7 frontosas 10-15cm (4''-6'') in a 840 liters tank (about 220gal) with 5 Altol.calvus and 5 Neol.leleupi plus the 2 plecos! And Im not going to put another fish in that tank even if the smallest ! Hey its just my oppinion and what I would do
