Two of my asian upside down catfish ganged up on the smaller one, and he took a beating. His flank is scratched, but it is starting to heal. His second dorsal fin, on the other hand, has turned white, and is slightly fuzzy. Is this fin rot? What can I do to cure it? The aggresion seems to be calming down. Thank you very much.
P.S. I have added 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon already/

Also, this has happened in 2 days, does it normally happen this quickly?

or is this just the fin tissue turning necrotic from the attack?

Mystus leucophasis are extremely aggressive as they get older. You will have issues keeping the three together. I don't know why they are sold as peaceful fish. That could not be more wrong.

You may have more luck healing that fish with melafix, but he will get beat on again so I would try to give him back, or find another home. Unless the tank is large, they will single out other catfish first and it will be a battle.

there does not seem to be actually bleeding fins, but theres some flesh showing at the base of his fin( a tiny streak, hes breathing rapidly, and has some patchy coloration) Please help.

Also, I just changed the water, so its in a pristine stat, did he get stressed from this? (It was a fairly large water change)

I would say he is stressed because every night when the lights go out he gets more of a beating, or chased around. You really need to seperate those fish, or try to give them a ton of hiding spots. Try PVC pipes from a hardware store.

Remember when these fish fight it is when the lights are out so best bet is to leave the lights on until you find another home.

would you say he'll survive until I get the melafix? Is the patchy colouration from the stress? Ill add some pvc pipes right now. Is the fluffy stuff fingus? Thanx

Im pretty sure its mainly the fungus taking hold of the dead tissue from fighting, as the fin hasnt seemed to deteriorate. Will melafix help the fungal infection? thanx

update: he seems less stressed out, as the other fish are sleeping in new caves. Ill buy him some medicine to treat the fungus ( I think its fungus, the fin doesnt look red and bleeding like pix Ive seen, the fin itself is white, as if it got bit) if it doesnt seem better, already with salt and warmer heat, hes looking better.

Do you think that perhaps this wasnt a case of finrot, but the dead tissue from the aggresion falling off? He seems less stressed out, none of the fin is bleeding, rather it looks like the barabells do when the tip dies.

Im not sure if he'll survive the night, the whiteness has spread to his back, and I have a feeling it isnt dead tissue. Hopefully he recovers.

update: he survived the night, his fin is looking better, and the aggresion has died down a little

I added funges clear by jungle, and removed the carbon, should I remove the biological filtration?

Rudy

Nope. The meds will kill some of the biological filtration, but hopefully not all.

I really don't think you needed to add fungus meds for this fish.

I think you have some larger issues as explained earlier, so I will leave you with that. Good luck

I have found someone interested in the aggresive fish, and the meds are working. The white fungus has started to fall off(Im assuming this is good)

you could buy one of these to keep the injured one in.

about 60% of the fungus is gone, the flesh underneath looks raw, Im assuming this will heal?
