i've heard that bamboo sharks are pretty good tankmates with lionfish like volitans.... anyone have any experience?

i'm buying a bamboo shark egg pretty soon and i'm gunna hatch it and save up for the 150 he's gunna need in the future. it'll take around 4 months for it to hatch, so i want something in there while he is developing that can live with him and eat similar foods... and i've always loved volitans.

any info would be appreciated.

also, has anyone else hatched a bamboo shark? i know it's relatively simple but i would like some input!

sorry i dont have any input on that but me and my dad planned on doing something like that but were going to get the banded shark egg i dont think those grow too big and we already have a dwarf lionfish so hopefully nothing will go wrong i would just think get a fairly small volitan that way it wont eat the shark when it hatches if their in the same tank because my dwarf already ate 3 chromies within 2 days if you do decide to get them both good luck!

I looked into getting a bamboo shark so I can sort of answer your question. They can go with lionfish. In all honesty they can go with most fish that they won't try to eat. They are more like a mild mannered catfish and will for the most part sit on the bottom most of their lives. Apparently you can keep them in reef tanks with little issue.

Again I have no idea, but that was what i have been told.

PMI- the shark eggs are banded sharks, and those are bamboo sharks, and they get 4-5 feet, and need a 300 gallon tank....

i'm deciding against the shark. as much as i want one, there is no saltwater shark that gets less that 4 feet in length and i am already wanting a 300 gallon for my gar, and don't have the funds to get another 300 for the shark.

plus, the sharks are very difficult to keep and i have enough with all of my other tanks to be worrying about the shark getting sick and me not being able to cure it.

we're gunna go for a Fu Man Chu lionfish if we can get our hands on one :D
