I just got 8 convicts for my 30g. I am growing them out until I get a pair. 4 of them are albinos so I can't tell male or female. The other 4 are regular and there are 2 males and 2 females. Both of the males are small, but 1 of them is dominant over the other. One of the females is bigger than the other. The dominant male and the larger female seem to be dominant over everything in the tank. Sometimes the female chases the male and this is what worries me. How long will it be before I can tell theres a pair. Is it normal for the female to chase the male. She is about twice as big as he is. The female is about 3 inches and the male about 1.5 inches. :D Any help would be appreciated.

That's normal in my experience. My female was larger than the male when I first got them. She also chased him around until he was ready to spawn. Feed them fresh or frozen brine shrimp for a while and they'll be spawning before you know it. You might have to remove the other fish when the babies hatch. I have a 55 gallon for my convicts. When a pair has young, all other fish are forced to live in about 15 gallons of water at one end of the tank   the parents are very aggressive.

Anytime! Make sure you have several places in your tank for them to spawn. An upside down flower pot with the bottom missing and a hole in the side is perfect.
