Did you get those Gold Calvus f/John over at TulsaAquatics? I was there this Saturday and was looking for a Calvus or two and he said they'd just sold them all to a guy earlier that weekend...

Darn my luck... if you did get them there... how do you like'm so far?

Haha....Sorry, that WAS me!....small world lol...

SO Far? I love them! THey are great! Really unusual ...Southern ag had a gold calvus a few days ago... So chances are you can still pick one up in town...

BTW...did you see the A. jake "Eureaka" juvies in there? The smaller group of them's daddy is from my "One Eye" male...They should be real nice fish...just don't let john know that you know where he got them (but knowing him, he may tell you anyway...)..

Those are great. I'll have to see if I can get a picture of my 'peacock' fish. I actually got him from John about 3 months after I got my Front f/him. The peacock is about 3-4" now... really nice coloration. He's a hider though and doesn't like his pic taken. Tends to run behind rocks and such w/the camera comes out.

I had almost forgotten about S.Agg... I'll have to see about going over there later this evening and looking at what they have. I wonder if the Calvus f/there would be the same quality as what John has and those you got f/him.

Hehe...good question! Depends on who you ask... John will tell you his stuff's better than Armkes/Jeff Rapp/and Old world cichlids all rolled up into one...("I get my fish from new york direct from Austria/Germany breeders, and they get their fish from the Lake- John @ Tulsa Aquatics....)

Scott T. (used to manage the fish department at S. Agg, he and john have a true dislike for each other) will tell you S.agg is as good or better ....

The truth is somewhere in the middle...While I worry about Mbuna from S. agg, Calvus would probably be OK from them.....Check to see what supplier they are getting them from...if it's "cichlid mike" then they are probably f1 and nice...southern agg will order tank raised fish, John only orders f1 or wilds....That's the difference between a hobiest's store and a larger "chain" store...Still, S. agg is much better than petco/pestmart and god forbid Walmart....

Your one-eyed jake is coloring very nicely.
Calvus are so strange looking...I would like to get some at some point, but they wouldn't work in the tang. tank I'm going to set up. I would like to get some Lepido. Nkambe (kindalli), and tetracanthus.

Those fish look great CD. I agree w/getting different opinions f/each place on whose fish are the best. I stopped in S.Ag Wednesday night and noticed that little Calvus they had... still in the "Not for Sale" tank. Must be they haven't had them very long. My main concern is that the Calvus they had was SMALL... say 3/4" maybe. I'm guessing he may turn into a nice snack for my Front. Or my Peacock would chase and kill him... I'd just hate for that to happen. I know where I could get a nice 29gal tank and set up for some Calvus... but not sure the wife would let me keep it in the house... lol.

Again... thanks for the pics and info.

Just FYI Eric, those four A. calvus I picked up were about the same size as what you saw at southern agg....Yeah, a 29 would be great for growing out some Calvus, just keep in mind that they take YEARS to get to full size...
