View Full Version : Tank Stock
Wll I have started over on my 75 gallon tank I now have 5 baby goldhead compressiceps (2 male and 3 female) and 3 baby electric yellows (dont know sexes). Im wondering how many fish are too many in here. they are all pretty small right now and it looks so bare. Id like to add some more yellows cause they like to play around together. I just didnt know how many fish would be too many for this size tank, especially when they are all grown up and a lot bigger. any ideas would be helpful
oh and I was plannnig on getting a new 29 gallon setup for some other fish that I want to keep but then I realized it would be around 180 or so and my uncle is selling his 55 gallon with oak stand, biowheel, powerheads for 150 bucks, so I figured I should do that as well. Im just asking myself, am I obsessing about fish too much, will I look back in a few months and say, why did I buy so many huge tanks ?
Any comments on this would help too

nope--but if you don't buy it--you'll kick yourself for the rest of your life. you always need more tank space.

At least I never said what to do with all the tanks I ve got so far (about 40) and I m still trying to find more space for another 10 tanks (400 liters each) that will be ready next month    In case someone is wondering, me and a good friend of mine are breeding as many species of African Cichlids as we can! We realy love these creatures! And about your question... well I guess u could purchase about 25 -30 fishes in your 75gal aquarium (species that are reaching a maximum size of 20cm when full grown) , but one thing for sure, never and I mean NEVER mix Cichlids of lake Tanganyika with these of lake Malawi!
P.S 20cm are 8'' and 400liters are about 100 gal!

why not? i know that many people don't like to mix fish from different lakes for various reasons, but why are you so dead set against it?

There are so many reasons why not! Tanganyikan cichlids can not handle very well temperatures over 28 C (especialy Tropheus species) they dont like big water changes and not as often as Malawi s do, many of them have diferent feeding habits which are very important for their health! On the other hand its not easy to cause bloat to Malawi s due to wrong feeding habits etc etc 8) I dont say that its unpossible to keep species of two different lakes in the same tank, I just say that making them live together doesnt mean that they realy enjoy it or like it that way! Hey it s just what I believe!
P.S Sorry for taking so long to respond, but as u know there is a big time diference betwen Greece and the U.S!
P.S 2 Excuse my mistakes, all the English I know is what I ve learnd by reading and listening your music!
Wow , if that's how you learned english I would say you are doing very well!

I think your right, If I dont buy it while I can Ill probably kick myself later :)
I am not seeing any problems by keeping my yellows with my compressiceps right now, but Ill keep a close eye on the tank and make sure everyone is happy

What I did was seperate my tanks for the lakes. I have a 90 gallon for Malawi Cichlids and a 75 for Tanganyikans. It seems to work well.
I did however keep Tangs with Malawis for a long time in the 90 gallon.
If you stay away from aggressive fish (electric yellows are push overs) you should be fine.
You may consider adding some Neolamprologus leleupi they would be a fine addition to your tank.

Go for the tank! I've been so thankful I bought a 135 off my friend for $1 a gallon. Anytime you can get a break on tank price tank it. I even rescued a 30 from a trash dumpster at my apartment complex once. You'll really be thankful for any extra space, especially if your fish breed.
