my friend is gonna get a 10gl tank and he wants to know what kind of fish he can put in it, hes looking for cichlids.

2 or 3 tanganyican shellies, or a pair of apistogramma.

Or tell him to get a 29g and expand his options considerably.

Even a 20g long would make a big difference. I know it's more expensive, but they're going to have a much easier time with a larger tank. 20g longs go for around $25 at the Petsmarts here.

If he has to stick to a 10g, then a couple of Neolamprologus multifasciatus would probably be the best bet.

A trio of breeding guppies !! Hahaha...

Seriously, I'm facing th same problem.

10 gals = not much at all.......

I do have a bunch of 10g's around here. Most of them are single species livebearer tanks, but one has a pair of Neolamprologus brevis in them. Not much luck breeding them though. They've spawned several times, but the male always eats the young within a day or two.

well at least they'll eat there young, cuz he doesnt have room for babies. he says hes gonna keep an oscar in it!!! i am so pissed because he keeps insisting an oscar can fit and live comfortably in a 10gl for its entire life!!! and he insist that an oscar takes 6-7 years for it to grow fully. wow so ignorant, ive been trying to teach him "cichlid stuff" yet he still thinks i have no idea. i wanna punch him.lol. i just dont want an oscar living in a 10gl.

yeah, oscars living in a ten gallon get hole in the head and deformities... i see it every day at the store...

it just pisses me off because he says that my oscar will need a bigger tank, when its in a 45gl (i consider this the minimum for an oscar) yet when i tell him not to keep an oscar in a 10gl he gets all defensive and acts as though an oscar will be fine in a 10gl he says "no, i saw one at the archery range in a 10gl!!" its just funny how ignorant people can be

i would say 75 is the minimum for an oscar, maybe two

my tank is custom so the oscar has room to do everything he wants. its way different than most, go to the gallery sometime, and check it out.
