This morning i finally managed to get hold of a Jaguar, some of you may be thinking, "no great feat", but i've been trying for about 8 months now, these fish in the uk are like gold dust, mine's a he, about 4.5" long and in fantastic shape, i bought him from a personal ad out of a magazine (no shops even wanted to order one for me, even with the amount of money i spend with them) 'cos the guy wanted his tank back, at the moment he's living with a 6" blackbelt and 3 tin foil barbs.
do you guys think he'll be ok in there long term or can you see any problems with this mix.
so today i'm feeling like the world is a pretty OK place.
Just so you all know i now have (in various tanks)
1 x 4.5" jaguar
1 x 6" black belt
1 x 4" midas
2 x 7" wild oscars
2 x 3" salvins
1 x 6" pearsii
and various barbs, large tetras etc
plus a pair of hoplosturnum cats with about 250 fry.
i know i'm a small fry to some of you guys but now i've found this forum, i feel like theres no stopping me.

Cool! I'm glad you were able to get the fish you've been after. What size tank are the Black Belt and the Jaguar in? I don't think you'll have any problems as long as your tank is big (both fish can get huge!). Good collection by the way. Pearsei and Wild Oscars are also very rare in the US. So are good quality Midas.
I'm just thinking.......do you know how much it would cost to ship fish overnight to the UK? I know of people that ocassionally buy rare fish from different places in Europe (not sure where), so it has to be somewhat resonable. The reason I ask is, I could possibly send you some things that you can't get over there. Do things like Bleekeri, Vieja regani, Vieja zonatum, and Tuba interest you? If you want to possibly try this sometime let me know. I just thought I might be able to help you.

rex, i'd love to try either Vieja regani, Vieja zonatum, or both, i did have a bifaciatus, but it died a couple of months back, i havent seen either for sale in the uk.
i will look into overnight shipping, or, i'm a travel Agent and quite often my colleagues are in the US, i'm wondering if we could somehow arrange it on our return flights.....Just thinking out loud.
i have a friend who has about 200+ pearsei fry growing on, so we are going to try and put some back into the hobby, locally at least.
BTW the Jag and blackbelt are in a 125g with 3 BIG tinfoils (which are by far the most stupid fish i've ever seen), they are actually trying to stalk the jag, but they'll learn.
PS, do you have any knowledge of Hertwegi, someone tried to sell me our today, but i'm sure it was a juvenile synspilum.

Cool. Are your colleagues ever in Kentucky? I'm not sure how I could get the fish to them unless they were close to my area (and the country is pretty big). 2 very easy ways of distinguishing Hartwegi from Synspilum is that Hartwegi will have a long horizontal stripe, while Synspilum should just have a short bar near the tail. Also Hartwegi are VERY spotted on their face and body, while Synspilum have solid colors and a solid red/pink head.
