I've had my GT for about a month now and he seems to be getting bigger, but i thought Cichlids were supposed to grow really fast. He was about an inch and a half when i got him and now he is about an inch longer. thanks for your input.

You're not making anyone upset here. It's just that an inch a month is very fast. It takes years to grow out some cichlids. The fastest grower I've ever had were oscars and they grew 1" a month for the first 8-9 months I had them.
Frontosa and calvus take years to mature.

Jonah, may I ask what you fed the oscars

Feeders, crickets and Hikari pellets mostly. They liked the red kind of pellets more than the green. They died about 4-5 years ago after we painted our house and the fumes got into the tank. :(

I bought my GT male in June 2002. He was just over 3" in size. Now, 8 mos. later he is not quite 7" in size. He is kept in a 55 gallon tank with a 3" female salvini and some loaches. So he is the "king of the tank." And he is obviously much bigger in mass then when I purchased him. But he still has some growing to do yet. I do weekly water changes, and feed pellets, and frozen foods. Also some crickets, earthworms, mealworms. He is very interactive , flaring at me when I approach the glass. Unless I have the food container, then he is like a puppy! He will take food sticks from my fingertips at the water surface. His "fearlessness" has been an example to my loaches (clowns,yo-yo,zebras)and they will now take food from my fingers as well! :D

My GT is the same way; flares at me a lot, and is cool....I got him at 2 inches last July and he is also now about 6-7 inches long. My female, which I bought at the same time is barely 3 inches long, to give you an idea of their growth rate.
