Today I went to the LFS 'cause I hadn't been in a few weeks, just to see what they had and if they had anything new. I had already decided that I don't need or want any new fish.
That is until I saw these wild caught L. caeruleus... Now I have 4.
Yesh. The LFS guy even knew that I would buy them as soon as I saw them. Said I "had the stare".... the stare of the pathetic...
Here's a couple of them...

Last time I saw a discussion on some wild caught Lions Cove yellows it was the guy at Ciclidlovers. He had paid $250 ea.!for about 6 I think.
I've been hearing about the white one's going around a bit.I haven't seen anything else about F-O or F-1 yellows though.Seems like Cichlidlovers would have some F-1 yellow's on his site by now.
Those are nice lookin white one's.

The only reason someone would do that is if they wanted to start a major breeding program and/or have major bragging rights!
IMO those $10 elect labs look just as good as the $250.
I'd be a nervous wreck with a $250 fish in my tank!

Yeah I know what you mean. If it even breathed wrong Id be like CODE RED CODE RED. Somebody call a medic! Id like to have a breeder tank full of those things one day...#999,999,999,999 on the wishlist lol.

Yeah, tell me about it. I'm pretty nervous with what I paid for the white ones... they weren't cheap. not 250 a piece, but not 10.
The white Labs are actually a lot more common in the lake than the yellow ones if memory serves....
they're doing just fine so far, but i haven't seen them in about an hour. actually, i haven't seen ANY cichlids in that tank in about an hour... i've got too much cover in there!

60 each for three of them.
talked them into 30 for a really little one.
minus 40 of accumulated store credit.

Libidochromis caeruleus "Nkhata Bay" is the location of the your white labs. :eek:60.00 each for wilds:eek: I have a whole tank full of them, would have gladly sold you as many as you wanted for half that price. Actually at 3 inches they are hardly worth 8.00 each. If your happy with your purchase then it makes it worth it. Ya know Matt I am not really that far from Chicago a trip up here sometime might be worth it for you.
Man LFS really put the screws on people.

Hey bigdaddy - what is that blue guy in the picture? Is he a Cyrtocara Moorii (Haplochromis Moorii) ?
Post some more pictures of your tank mates - you seem to have a nice mix and they look real happy!

They had TR for 8 a piece, but the wilds looked decidedly nicer. I realize that I paid too much for them - wild caughts are always ridiculously overpriced and usually not worth it. I should have just got the TR fish. I realize all that! I bought them anyway. The store credit made the pill a little easier to swallow. Not much, but a little. This also pretty much fills up my tanks, so I figured if I'm not buying new fish for a pretty long while, may as well go out with a bang, right?
Like the title of the thread said, I am so weak...
Bigdaddy - where you at in Wisconsin? I don't have a car, but renting is always fun like I did last weekend to go to Miller Park (which, incidentally, is the most beautiful ballpark i have ever set eyes upon...)

Hey Matt, don't worry about what anyone says regarding prices and don't question your actions (too much  ). If the fish make you happy then they were well worth it. There is no price for happiness and a feeling of satisfaction - IMHO

FWIW - I think they look cool as $hit!!
:D

Yeah. Me 2.
Thanks Pedro. I think they're really cool, too. Their stripes are almost navy blue. I thought they were definitely the nicest malawians that they had yesterday...
There were some wild tangs that just made my jaws drop they were so neat looking, but their prices were equally jaw-dropping...

Don't feel to guilty Matt V.Paying a heafty amount for wild caught's can easily pay for themselves over the lifetime of the fish.If you wheel and deal you'll probably make back all your money and then some.Just mention your selling F-1 stock.
I found an article out of a July1997 Cichlid News. It's about a Labidochromis sp.zebra.There's not even a photo of one in Koning's #2 or #3.Said it was introduced by Spreinat in 1995.Here's the only pic of one I could find on the net.
http://www.cichlidforums.com/postimages/2004-07-12/54801-001.jpg
It has a white body like the white caeruleus but has dark black barring w/black in the dorsal.Anybody ever seen or heard of these?
Matt V
07-12-2004, 03:14 PM
No, but cool fish!
Very cool fish.
I did a bunch of Googles on "Labidochromis" - about three hours worth - yesterday and I never came across any reference to those guys...

Matt-uh oh, three hours searching Labidochromis...did you stare at enough "Yellows" to make you sick yet?
Matt V
07-12-2004, 09:02 PM
Oh god yes. If I have to read the story about how Pierre Brichard took that first pair and inbred the hell out of them I'm gonna go nutsies.
Nuts, I tell you! No more yellow labs!
Tee hee.

Do a google search for Labidochromis zebra and you will find some more links about them.
The two locations I have seen are "Lundo" and "Nkali". A friend of mine has the Lundo location. Woot can chime in here if he sees this, I know he has seen them in person.
Here is a link to Woot and my Mutual friends fish. Click on the pictures link.

Listen to that...lol. You decided you don't need or want any new fish so you go to the LFS. LOL Totally in denial! Facing the problem is half the battle man. Say it with me..."My name is BLANK and I am a fishaholic"

btw Matt, I hope you like Freddie Garcia. He was my favorite pitcher on my M's. Yes the wheels fell off my squad this year and we had to do something, but I really like Freddie.
You'll find he gives up alot of dingers though. Mostly he's an ace but after three perfect innings with mad stuff, he'll give up a couple monster HRs. It's weird but he has great stuff.
I really like Olivo.. Did you like Miguel Olivo when he was a White Sox catcher? What's the "fan's perspective" on Olivo?
