Hey there, I'm the new guy on the board. Quick question, more of a plea for a suggestion really. I have a 55gallon with a pleco (7inches), 3 Yellow Labidochromis caeruleus (1-2inches), and 2 Kenyii (1-2inches). The questions is, what else can/should I get? I was thinking one more Kenyii and maybe some Zebras or Johannis. What do you think? Thanks.

Welcome CI and go Wolverines! I would go ahead and add the Kenyi and a few Zebras and plenty of rock, I don't know on the Johani I've heard there real aggressive. Maybe some Mbuna experts will give there two cents.

i think you should try some zebras definetly. theyre great fish to watch and easy to breed but males do fight alot and i have had problems with them killing my other fish. good luck with what ever u pick

the only fish that really doesn't belong in that group is the yellow lab--the labs are usually much milder in temperament than the zebras, kennyi, and johanni.

Hell Yah Go blue!!! Before the untimley demise of my johanni he was king and was quite aggressive and always harassing others but never seemed to kill anyone, but managed to make many a fishes life a living hell! I would have to agree with the one they call the mermaid  on the temperment issues.

A 55 gallon with the fish you have and you want to add more? I wouldn't if I were you. Mbuna need a lot of space. About an 18 inch cube for "their space" is a good rule of thumb.
Then the other side of the argument, and I have seen it work, is overcrowding the tank and re-arranging the tank setup 1-2 times a month so they have to stake out their new territory regularly. If you go for this option, remember by overcrowding you will increase bio load as well. Which leads to more filter and tank maintenance.
If you really want to add a johanni, wait till your L. caeruleus get about 3-4 inches long and then add a very juvenile johanni.
Another good rule is add Mbuna to a tank least aggressive first to most agressive last. Don't add Non-Mbuna to the tank either. Even the least aggressive Mbuna will go after a Non-Mbuna.
