I have a 55 with Malawi's and I just read about convict cichilds. I read that they breed very easily, so I would like to get a few. I have a 30 gallon to use. How many could this hold and could they breed in it. They would be the only fish in it. Any info about the convict cichild would be appreciated.
A breeding pair will claim the whole tank as their territory. There is no shortage of info on raising convicts, just do a Google search on "convict cichlid".
Depending on how long the tank is. If it is 30 inches plus I would suggest you could have two pairs.

Before you start breeding convicts, figure out what you'll do with all of the fry. I was at an LFS today (there's a shock  ) and they had quarter size convicts for 99 cents a piece. It might be hard to find a store to take them off your hands. You might be better off breeding a fish that has a better demand and price (like electric yellows or Tanganyikans).
Then again, if you just like convicts, knock your self out. They're pretty cool fish.
