I would like to build a stand for my not so distant future 180 gallon tank.

Has anyone every done this? Biggest I have done is my 90 and to tell you the truth I was thinking of just adding the extra 2 feet to it. Has anybody constructed one of these things

1800 pounds makes my feminine side show through. I am scared of this thing. Any engineers out there?????

Can I use 2x4s

Rudy, I might be joining you in the 180 club! I just found out where I can get one (of 8 ) with hood and wet/dry with pump for 400.00 Now I just gotta figure out how to get it in the house without the wife noticing :)

I suggest 2x4s and plywood as the structural members. Make sure that the 2x4s are supporting the weight in compression, and that you aren't trying to take weight on the screws, and you'll be fine. The compressive strength of a really cheap pine 2x4 (stud quality) is 625psi, so figure a 2x4 in compression supports ~1000 lbs, to be safe. Space them vertically at 3' - 4' intervals and use 5/8 plywood as a structural webbing to keep them from going out of square.

So Pete.

Did you get the 180 ? My wife was a little po when I brought mine in the house but it is worth it.

Chennes. I am sorry I didn't see your reply until now. I took the stand the guy had as it matched. I use 2x4's for stands up to 90 gallons I built all of mine. I just as a little hesitant to do the same thing for 2000 lbs. Thanks for the coorection. Next time I won't be so hesitant.

Now if I could only get that Dewalt Mitre saw I want :?
