Is there anyway to dethrone a king cichlid in a mbuna tank but still have him be included in the set up? How would i go about doing it? Thanks to all who reply.

Try removing him for a day, change your rockwork a bit and let everyone in the tank setle back down. Then put him back in. I have had good results in treating hyper-aggressive males like this however occasionally it does not work. Hope this helps.
I had a problem with a Kennyi that wouldn't let the other fish swim past the centre of the tank (half of the tank was his, the other half was for the other fish). I tried everything, including rearranging the rocks, etc. Nothing worked. Until my bumble bee grew to be bigger than the kennyi, then he took over. Because he is more docile, I don't have any problems with him being overly aggressive because that's not in his nature. But if he sees something he doesn't like, then watch out!
There will always be an alpha-male (bull) in your tank. You just have to try and make sure that bull isn't killing everybody else. Try to keep a few females for him, that usually helps to settle things down.
Good luck..

ive had this problem once b4 too. I had a huge male hap. obliqudens and it kept beating up everything. Just try adding a bigger fish to ur tank. This could help or make your problem worse. good luck either way

you can try to take him out for a day or two and change rock work around but the main thing is for some other male of his spieces to step up and kick his ass that will be the only way

What size tank do you have? If iI know the size I would be able to recommend a new genus of fish that would take the alpha spot, and at the same time keep the peace.
This is not fool proof, but if removing him and reintroduction doesn't work, this would be the way to go.
