Maybe some one can help me. I am trying to figure out exactly how the rate aquarium sizes. What I mean is that the area for two different 100gallon tanks are completely different. I mean should they be the same if they hold the same amount of water or am I missing something?

Remember that an aquarium has three dimensions, height, width, and depth. A 100 gallon tank could be made with any combination of those three dimensions. Standard tanks in that size range are all going to be either 4' or 6' wide. This is usually the most important dimension with regards to fitting it. If you have room, always go with the wider tank, especially with Cichlids. They'll appreciate the extra real estate
