a guy from south africa told me that there is no initial vowel sound (i guess alot of african words are like this), that makes it closer to "mmmboona".

I asked one of our engineers at work who's from Africa (not Malawi). He said it's um-bu-na. Then he said they're delicious. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Of course different dialects may pronounce differently. I won't be satisfied until a Malawi school teacher give's their pronunciation.

Since I have always heard emboona. So I did a google search and only came up with this:

Not a whole lot of help, since it seems to say it both ways. Oh well, I guess either way we'll all know what we mean anyway.
