Hey all 8) Sgypsymermaid, and anyone else with some good species pics on Victorians, please head over to Aquabid and double check something for me. In the Victorian section there is a listing for Hap. All Reds. I thought "great, if they're Ugandas, I'll get them to add some new genes to my breeding colony". Look at the pic on the auction. To me, it looks nothing like an All Red. I'm 90% certain that what he has are Flamebacks, but would like some additional input. Anyway, if anyone can help verify what they are, I'd appreciate it......Scott 8)

i did look at that auction, and i thought that they were red back scrapers!.. i remember seeing one of those long discussions about hap. all reds that were not all red. i'll try to track it down.

It is my understanding that there is a Hap "all red" from Lake Edward and a Hap "all red" from Lakes Nawampassa & Kyoga that look quite different from eachother. If the victorians on aquabid are truely all reds then they are definately not the Lake edward variety. Here are mine:
http://home.columbus.rr.com/baumancichlids/allred.htm
Now there seems to be a fine line between the all red Nawampassa, flameback, red back scrapper and maybe even one variety of nyererei that I'm not qualified to figure out.

Hey Kevin- The problem is there are so many fine lines that no one can figure out  It drives me crazy sometimes. I have All Red "Uganda" and the fish on Aquabid looks nothing like mine. I think I'll E-mail the seller and se if he has a designation for them. I'll report back...Scott 8)

Not much luck yet :? I E-mailed the guy to ask if he had a specific collection designation for these guys. He wrote back, "sure, they're from Lake Victoria" I replied back and tried again, but it doesn't seem he's going to be any help.

Any way to post a picture of your "all red uganda", Scotty. I think about a third or a quarter of Lake Victoria is in Uganda. But Lakes Nawampassa and Lake Kyoga are also totally in Uganda too.
If I really had to guess, I would quess that the fuzzy picture on aquabid is an "all red nawampassa" ........ and I sure do share your frustration with this victorian ID/classification problem.
Its great to see a little action in the victorian section here.

Hey Kevin,
No pics of these guys for a while. I took a group off of someones hands about two months ago. He had picked them up for me at a wholesalers because he knew I liked Vics, and he thought they were a good deal. They had been starved for quite a long time and were in terrible shape :x The females were much worse off than tha male because they were all holding eggs. I stripped them all because I knew they would die without fast action, and I wound up with about 30 assorted eggs and wigglers. The fish were all too far gone. Their stomachs were so sunken in that they couldn't get any food down. The females all died within a week, and the male followed about two weeks later. All the babies survived and are growing like little weeds though  They have a 20 gal. all to themselves and are between 5/8" and 3/4". I remember what the male looked like well enough to know that it wasn't like the one in the auction. He had a greyer body with less prominent barring. Also his red was more centered on his flank, not up on his back. Once one of these babies gets big enough to color up, I'll post a pic. To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical about what my group are as well, so would love some input when I post them. How much faith can I put in the name given to my friend by someone who starved them to death

Hi Scotty, there's a lot of fish with red color on the flanks and most of them are not describe. You have all red Edward, all red Nawampassa(Kyoga flameback), red back scaper,Victoria flameback, purple yellow, ruby, P. nyerereï,etc..In France, we have 3 fishes who are calling all red and they really differs in head shape, in color and in body morph, one from Edward, one from Kyoga and the other from unknown origins. You can take a look to http://wwwHaplochromis.org/ ,you go on aquariology and click on species. Ther's some pics there and prehaps, you will find what your fish are.

Hey Everyone- Guess what. My suspicions regarding the name of my "All Reds" were well founded  I found an exact match to my male in Structure Guys Gallery. What I actually have is Hap. Sp. Ugandan Fire. Thanks Kevin 8) If you ever want to trade fry, I also have a whole tankful of Blue Bar fry. I could send you a group of young Ugandan Fires and Blue Bars for some of yours. I don't know if your pics are just a bit faded, but my male Blue Bar is a deeper blue with blood red fins. Let me know if you're interested in doing something when the weather warms up a bit.......Scott 8)
