I came home today and found a huge pile of crushed coral outside a cave in my tank. It looks like my male and female Aulonocara maleri have finally paired up and are breeding. This should be interesting to watch!
It is strange how this started after I took all of the Tanganykans out and put them in their own tank.
I had a sneaking suspicion that this was the reason for such a dull tank.

good luck with the spawning! i've got some spawning action going, too--the "ishmaelis", and one of the new half crimsons is holding.

I have come to the conclusion that over populating tanks reduces spawning. Especially with a very wide range of species. Lesson learned I guess. Now I need to figure out where to put the female.
NEW TANK!
I will be in soooo much trouble.

I guess I forgot to tell her that the Frontosa will get HUGE and that would require a HUGE tank to keep our new gift...ooops
Perhaps I should take her to the Zoo and show her the ones they have.

The next house will have a 1000 gallon "tank"
I was about ready to tell Finz to get over hear and take the Comps away for free. Evidently the fish I added from the other tank last night helped.
I like Tanganykans because they will eat a more varied diet of Krill, bloodworms, daphnia and vegies.
She is a princess (yes that is her name)

I agree with the over populated, under breeding theory. It happened with my Mbunas.

Those Comps are still lickin their chomps and drooling over your new Front? Are you sure it's not a Zaire front?http://www.russutslersfish.com/pictures/frontosa/russ_c_frontosa_zaire_blue.jpg
BTW Vickey's husband told me she will be getting more.

Actually she had a different name then both, It actually could be. Hard to tell from photos. Are there any markings or differences? I considered it to be a Blue Mpimbwe http://www.russutslersfish.com/frontosa_gallery.html. It is one of the two. Next time I talk to her I will ask her the name.
The comps and the Frontosa seem to have an understanding. The Frontosa gets out of the way (for now).
Both seem healthy among everything else. After I get the shellies I am not so sure I should put anything else in (that tank). I have considered moving some julies and lelupie to the mbuna tank. Right now I have 22-25 fish in there and its a 75 gallon. Tanganyikans seem a little more territorial than the mbuna (or it seems with my tanks). More space would do the tang tank some good.
I also got some Neolamprologus cylindricus in there now http://www.tanganyikan-cichlids.co.uk/Articles/Picncylin.htm
If were to get more Fronts I would have to get a 125 or something and I am not willing to get another tank since I am considering moving. It is definately in my future plans.
