View Full Version : pool filter sand????
hi just a quick question, i just bought some Pool filter sand but it says Nepheline Syenite, it this just a technical name as the guy at the pool store said that this it pool filter sand,it is off white and tiny flex of black, i put it in to my tank already so I hope it ok, it looks Great!!I rinced it a few times and it didnt even cloud the water :ok:

Sorry to say I have no idea what "Nepheline syenite" is. I use PFS in some of my tanks and I don't think I've ever seen that on the bags before.

NEPHELINE-SYENITE, or ELAEOLITE-SYENITE, a holocrystalline plutonic rock which consists largely of nepheline and alkali felspar. The rocks are mostly pale colored, grey or pink, and in general appearance they are not unlike granites, but dark green varieties are also known. They do not contain quartz, as that mineral and nepheline are mutually exclusive. From ordinary syenites they are distinguished not only by the presence of nepheline but also by the occurrence of many other minerals rich in alkalis or in rare earths.
