It's going to depend on your tapwater and what Africans you're keeping. My tap water has a pH of 8.2 and the gh/kh is 15 so it's just about perfect for rift lake cichlids, but it wouldn't be very good for some species like jewels or kribinsis.

If your tap water has chlorine and other chemicals in it you have to use a water conditioner like Stress Coat or something.

chlorine: 0
i asked my landlord, he said our water is filtered before it gets to our building. i'm so happy:D
