Alright, I took some new pics of my mystery cichlid this morning. These pics aren't the best in the world, but they are definitely better than the ones I had before. I bought this fish out of a firemouth tank at Petsmart a while back. I have my suspicions, but want to know what the general concensus is. Also, this fish is quite aggressive. Going so far as to chase my convicts, uropthalmus, and salvini...

Is that that same fish you have had for a while Chet? Holy crap it looks like a A. robertsoni.

Cool pic up.

In an attempt to help get a positive I.D., I will describe some of the features that are not so obvious in the picture. This fish has a red tip all along its dorsal fin. It also has a bright patch of orangish coloration under its jaws and gills, much like a firemouth, but not nearly as prounounced and not protruding out from under the jaw as it does on a firemouth. If you need more info, just ask...

Looks like a hybrid to me.

Just a guess.

I say it's a firemouth/texas cross. definitely not A. robertsoni (here is a pic of mine)
